The Department of Genetics provides genetics education and training to students, health professionals, researchers and the public, including graduate education (Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., genetic counseling), medical student preclinical and clinical teaching, residency training in all medical genetic disciplines, postdoctoral research, training in all ABMG specialties and continuing education for health providers.  Back to Education main page


 

 

Objective

The main objective of this program is to give current undergraduate students, interested in the possibility of pursuing studies towards a Ph.D. in Genetics, an opportunity to experience hands-on biomedical research. This program consists of a 10 week period, from June 1 through August 10, during which the student will perform biomedical research under the direction of faculty mentors active in diverse areas of genetics research.

What will a summer intern do?

A summer student's main activity will be genetics research. To find out Faculty members' research topics areas, follow the link below, then click on each faculty member's name:

In addition to research, the student will attend weekly classes that discuss scientific ethics, experimental methods, and how to apply to graduate school. At the end of the program, the student will be asked to present the results of a research project at a poster session for summer research interns..

 

Who is eligible?

Any student currently enrolled as an undergraduate student, with a minimum GPA of 3.0, can apply. Applicants, residents in the continental USA, should be considering the pursuit of a PhD.

Stipend: Each summer research intern will receive a stipend.
