The Department of Genetics was created in November 2002 through the merger of the existing Department of Human Genetics with the Department of Genomics and Pathobiology. The department is comprised of an interdisciplinary group of faculty focused on performing basic laboratory and clinical research; providing inpatient and outpatient consultation services; and offering state-of-the-art molecular diagnostic and cytogenetic testing. Re: Before/After Hours and Weekend Events

 

In an effort to provide security to the employees, guests and animals housed in most research buildings, we ask that you please adhere to the new policies of entering and exiting research buildings before/after regular business hours and on weekends.

Effective immediately, there will only be one unlocked entrance/exit to the building for all events held before/after regular business hours and on weekends. Due to an increase in campus crime, the following procedures must be followed upon entering and exiting the building:

  1. A UAB police officer must be obtained for security purposes by calling Sgt. Cooper at 934-4434. (The cost of security will be at your department’s expense and billed directly to you.)
  2. A representative from your group must be posted at the designated entrance at all times during the course of the event. (For Identification Purposes)
    *** Please give advance notice to UAB Police to make preparations for participants with special needs.
  3. Except in case of emergency, the designated entrance/exit is the only exit to be used.
  4. Any violations of this policy will forfeit any future use of the facility.

Please be aware that if you break for lunch on weekends and leave the building, the same procedure above applies for re-entry - no exceptions allowed!
